No. Simply wearing it on my wrist, it automatically picks up everything: my sleep hours & minutes, my awake # and minutes during "sleep", and my 'restless' times/minutes during "sleep". If I take the Fitbit off at bedtime, it does not measure sleep!. It sleeps :-).

Was not always 100% accurate though, and I only know that because I got very few hours of sleep that day and didn't check it until a few hours after being up and it had said I had been sleeping that whole time. Have not had any problems besides that one time.
