The same thickness as when closed; the hinge is a full 180 degree hinge and doesn't add gap-space. Probably not comfy to hold with one hand and touchscreen with the other for very long, especially since the non-rounded edges become the outside edges when it's opened into a tablet form. If you have a Best Buy near you you can go check it out :).
