“Why can't this unit be put in a thru-the-wall opening? I read on Q&A that this unit will not work on thru-the wall,can you tell me why.I have a bedroom 5000 BTU & living room 8000 BTU that are both window models,and seem to work just fine thru-the -wall.I want to replace the 8000 BTU with the 12000 BTU unit / 3" clearance on each side of the unit inside the wall?How critical is the clearance between the AC's side vents and the side wall inside the wall? Opening is 24.75 W X 14.875 H X 21.0 D. THANKS IN ADVANCE”

Thank you for your question! We apologize for the delay in response. For optimal performance of the unit, we recommend this it be used in a window. Frigidaire also offers a full line of models designed to be mounted in a sleeve installed through-the-wall. The "Through-the-Wall" units must be installed with a wall sleeve and an exterior grille and possible a drain kit to lead away any condensation. Our models come designed to be mounted to these sleeves (our models can fit into any competitor sleeve using an available accessory). A window air conditioner cannot be installed in a wall sleeve in an efficient manner. Also, the window air conditioners "breathe" through the sides of the unit, while a Through-the-Wall, again because of its design only breathes through the back.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I can think of 2 reasons. 1 - There is no sleeve to install then slide the AC into. 2 - Many wall units have vents only at the rear. This has vents on all sides.
