Just got this unit today, and can state that both sides and the top warmed up, but the back was cool as a cucumber.

While they recommend 3" from all surfaces, I plan to have NO clearance in the back. Logically, without coils in the back wall, there should be no need for clearance for heat dissipation. I can't imagine the back would warm up at times other than when the sides/top warm up.

It needs an full inch on all sides to dissipate the heat.
