How do I secure the ac to the sides of the opening? null

Instruction manual is clear. AC is held in place by lowering the Window Sash down to and in back of the AC metal frame. You need to use the supplied screws to mount the AC frame to the window itself, and also to mount a safety bracket up higher on the window frame. There are expandable side curtains (plastic) that are adjusted to fill in the right and left sides to your specific window width (they are all a bit different). Those are also secured with screws to keep them in place.
