The difference between the two sizes mine has is almost negligible, However if you with between batches, and compare the sizes there is what I refer to as a minor noticeable difference. The only advantage, that I perceive, is the smaller sizes will cycle faster, if you have people waiting for ice.

Time the two different settings and make sure there is a difference in length. Ice size is also affected by the temperature of the water in the water reservoir and ambient temperature. (The small ice setting with really cold water will create the same size ice as the large setting and room temperature water).
