The hookup to the window is for exhaust, not for air intake.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The window kit is for the hot air exhaust. Without it the unit will blow the hot air back into the room.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have this unit in my office at home for additional cooling with the PC's. It does draw air from the room it is in but it also requires a window to exhaust the heat. Any heat exchanger system requires someplace to dump the heat and in most cases that is a window. If you just leave the window trunk line off then all of the hot air would just get dumped back into the room and you would probably have a net zero effect or be hotter overall because no system is really 100% efficient. The trunk line is probably a good 5' to 6' long though so the tower doesn't need to be right next to the window. I guess you don't have to run it out a window either. As long as you run the trunk to something going out of camper it should work. For example if you had some sort of ceiling exhaust fan you could run it up to that somehow. The short answer though is that you do need some place to exhaust the heat exchanged. You can't just have it free standing in the middle of a room. I have been very happy with mine. This is the second summer I have used it and it keeps my office at just the temp I want.

Keep in mind that the exhaust/vent hose can get quite warm. You may want to consider that along with the actual unit dimensions depending on your space size. Although, this Fridgidare 8000 BTU unit is one of the smaller ones on the market in width and depth. I like this model because you can also direct the air flow better with the louvers compared to other designs. Great little portable air conditioner for the price!
