Hello, I would not recommend that type of installation as it would limit the exhaust air from being able to cool down the condenser coil. It needs outside air to do that. The same fan motor has a common shaft and draws air from inside the house through another coil called the evaporator where the Freon turns from a liquid to a gas. Just think of it as moving the heat btu's from inside the house to the outside. Also fyi: This is the quietest window unit I have ever installed.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, the heat generated on the backside of any window air conditioner needs to vented external your house or else you will actual heat your house more then you cool it. A fireplace / chimney will not be able to provide this function.
