Water should only need to be drained if you are operating the unit in Dehumidifyer mode. That mode requires the hook up of a garden hose to expell the condensed water. If you are only operating it in Cooling mode then the water should evaporate through the air duct to the outside. If you see a P1 error code then you must drain water from the bottom drain valve to get the unit operating again.

Options include: through the wall (Home Depot has kits to accomplish this), If the ceiling is low (must be within the reach of the exhaust hose approximately 5 feet and the exhaust for the unit is around 2 feet off the ground so that would mean a ceiling height of 7 feet or less or take the rollers off and place the unit on a sturdy perch) you can vent it that way (again Home Depot has the supplies needed; HOWEVER, if you are not a real do it yourselfer have a professional do this so that you do not have a roof leak. Whatever you do, DO NOT vent it into a fireplace flue !!! The distance is just to much for the small fans in these units and while convection would seem to say the hot air will go up and vent, it will NOT !!! It will hang around in the chimney making it more and more difficult for the fan until the unit puts hot air in the room or the fan dies.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need to periodically empty the water tray on the bottom. If you are running the setting on auto, then you must have constant drainage via the drain port about halfway down the unit. If you run on cool you shouldnt have to empty the water too much at all!
