The eTrex 35 Touch does not require a phone to operate. You just need a clear view of the sky and a few minutes for it to acquire satellite connection. The battery life is up to 16 hours. The etrex 35 Touch has a Where to? feature which is exactly what you are inquiring about. Just mark your campsite and head out. When you are ready to return go to Where to?, choose your waypoint and off you go.
