• Yes, it will measure heart rate without a check strap. For some activities, OHR may not record as accurate as a chest strap due to the flexion of the wrist. Debbie with Garmin

• The watch does measure heart rate without a chest strap. I believe by adding the chest strap, you would get a slightly more accurate number.
