“Does it have a battery so that the USB cord or power cord isn't hanging down from the rear view mirror? Not very invisible if cord has to hand to power source.”

No, it doesn’t have a battery. It needs to remain plugged in using the power cable provided, and it turns off and on with your vehicle. It does come with a really long cable meant to be tucked into the seams of your vehicle. I was able to do it myself, no need for a pro install. I routed the cable up and into the seam of my windshield, around to the right A pillar and into that seam, down and around underneath my glove box, and into the power outlet using the USB adapter it comes with. I unplug it and hide the camera when I leave the vehicle...you just never know with people. My setup actually has this camera in the back, and the Garmin Tandem in front. Hope this helps!
