A:AnswerIt has settings where you can set it to monitor your heart rate but it does eat away at the battery life a bit faster but the battery life is very good. You can turn on a constant monitor and shut it off when you want to.
A:AnswerIt does not require it and works fine. You may need to use the Garmin Express app on your computer to apply updates and make configuration changes etc.
