Hi there - Great question! The cardboard cover on the right top or side wall of the microwave interior is there by design. The cardboard (mica) covers the waveguide system that feeds microwave energy into the cavity and should not be removed. The microwave should not be used for any function if this cardboard cover is not in place. If removed, it would require service to replace. We're so glad you checked! -Mikayla@GEA
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, Don't remove it unless it is damaged or soiled. This is a Waveguide Cover. A waveguide cover's main job is to transmit microwave radiation. It prevents steam and food particles from interacting with the electrical components within the microwave oven. I clean mine often and replace it when it starts to look worn, It is very inexpensive. I am not an expert to I hope that helps.
