HI - Model JES1657SMSS is approximately 17 3/4 deep (Dimensions: 12 7/8 H x 21 3/4 W x 17 3/4 D). This does not include recommended air clearance. Allow 3" of clearance on both sides and the top and 1" clearance in the rear. Also, the front edge of the microwave (measured at door) should sit at least 3" or more back on the counter or shelf to avoid accidental tipping. Thanks for considering GE! Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the entire back is not the same depth. there is a bulge on 1 side. left i believe. I dont remember exactly but i think the depth is wrong in the specs. the actual depth of the bulge (deepest part) is 17 3/4 inches. there are no vents in the back so you can shove it all the way back. my old ge was 17 1/4 and i wish this one was too. it stcks out a little too much from the shelf.
