Q: QuestionWe just had our microwave installed, but when turning the exhaust fan off, it's really loud and sounds like it doesn't want to stop, Like it is hitting something as it stops. We haven't cooked anything, this is just testing the buttons. Is this normal?

• A:Answer Hello Angel, Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your over the range microwave. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing a loud sound and know this must be frustrating. A fan where the internal components are located will run continuously while the microwave is in operation to constantly circulate the air and cool the working parts. It is normal for the internal fan for the electronics to continue to run for a few seconds after the microwave cycle is complete, even if the door is opened. This fan does not circulate air in the cavity. That being said, if it sounds like the exhaust fan is hitting something this is not a normal sound that we would expect from our microwaves. We would suggest scheduling a service appointment. Q: QuestionCan we buy a microwave over the oven in white? We have a GE microwave that converts to an oven which is broken. We would be happy with a plain microwave if it would fit over the oven as our old microwave does. Our current microwave is 26 Inches wide.

If the microwave is converted to recirculating (ventless), the charcoal filter included (WB02X11550- $8.75 at GEApplianceparts.com) should be replaced when it is noticeably dirty or discolored (usually after 6 to 12 months, depending on usage).
