“Some reviewers have mentioned a pan that goes underneath the machine. Is this something that is permanently installed under the machine and if so does it interfere with moving the machine.”

It does require you to put on the bottom cover but no it doesn’t affect moving the machine, I have my washer in my apartment and I roll it around easily,

Due to the way the washer is protected and shipped, the cover is shipped uninstalled. It is shipped on top of the washer, nestled in the top styrofoam (EPS) packing tray. It easily installs under the unit with 4 screws. Once installed, the base cover will not interfere with moving the washer.
