  • QuestionWhat is the most likely reason for the refrigerator to begin freezing the contents. Dial had been on 2 or 3 and when the freezing began it was lowered to 1. Freezer is not affected, only the refrigerator. Thank you.

    Asked by Priscila.

    • Answer Hi Priscila- This is Sue at GE Appliances. We are happy to help. Placing large items or hot/warm food next to the thermister blocks the airflow to the thermister which gives it false air temperature. This can cause food to freeze especially on the top refrigerator shelf. The thermister is located on the top left side of the refrigerator cabinet. It looks like a dome shaped plastic capsule with slats on it. Moving those items 6 inches away from the thermister should improve the situation. Also, we suggest factory setting "5". Food load is an important factor. The drawers and compartment should ideally be 1/2 full or more. Freezing occurs when the refrigerator does not having enough food to absorb the cold air. If this does not help, service may be required.
