Hi Scriptgirl - Thanks for your purchase! GE Appliances strongly recommends that an extension cord not be used with a refrigerator due to the potential safety hazards under certain conditions. However, if an extension cord is used, it is absolutely necessary that it be a UL® listed 3-wire grounding appliance extension cord, and that the current carry rating of the cord be a minimum of 15 amperes. Where a standard 2-prong wall outlet is encountered, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet. Do not cut the grounding prong and do not use an adapter. The power cord is approximately 5' - 6' in length. Keep in touch! SUE@GEA
