  • QuestionWe haven't used the dishwasher that much only about 5 tines since we moved into our home. The dishwasher no longer works and we've lived there for over 10 years. What could be wrong with it?

    Asked by Purchasing.

    • Answer Hi - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your GE Dishwasher. We are sorry to hear it no longer works after only 5 uses or so. This is frustrating, we know. If the dishwasher has no power going to it, make sure the dishwasher door is closed tightly and is latched correctly. Open the door and then close it again firmly. Reset your home's fuse or circuit breaker for the dishwasher. The dishwasher may be installed with a power cord that has come loose. Not all dishwashers have a power cord; however, if your dishwasher has a cord, the outlet will be in an adjacent cabinet. Be sure the power cord is plugged into the wall and that the outlet is functioning. If it is plugged into a GFI/GFCI outlet that has a reset button, press Reset on the outlet to restore power. If your dishwasher is controlled by a wall switch, make sure the power is turned on. Wall switches are required in some areas, so check around the kitchen counter or in the cabinet under the sink for a switch you do not normally use. If the above suggestions do not resolve the issue, service may be needed. To schedule service online, visit us at GEAppliances.com or call 1.800.GE.CARES (800.432.2737). Please have your serial number and your model number available when calling for service. We hope this is helpful. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue

  • QuestionLeaving brown stain on the bottom of unit around heating unit

    Asked by Kay.

    • Answer Hi Kay - A yellow stain or ring under the heating element is a build-up of minerals that have come off the heating element during many dishwasher cycles. This can be removed by wiping it with a mild cleanser and a towel. An overall yellow staining is probably caused by minerals from the household water supply (or coffee or tea stains), and can be cleaned using a citric acid treatment. Citric acid is available in liquid or crystal form. GE Appliances recommends the crystals because they will remain in the detergent cup until it is time to dispense the product, while the liquid is likely to run out before the detergent cup opens. Citric acid crystals are sometimes called "sour salt" and are available at some drug stores and most grocery stores in the canning or spice section. GE Appliance Parts also stocks Citric Acid Crystals as part number WD35X151. Purchase a part online at GEApplianceparts.com - Citric acid can be used in both plastic and stainless steel interior dishwashers. Do not place silverware, aluminum items or other metals in the dishwasher during this process to avoid tarnishing those items. Dishes or glasses with "patterns" should not be left in the dishwasher when doing a citric acid treatment. Some "patterns" can be damaged or washed off.
