If rubber drain plug is out , on the bottom, it will steadily drip water with use, and be less efficient the manual Says. The fan splashes the excess water and it helps cool the condenser, but at the cost of added noise. I leave the plug out and it just drips outside. Any left over parts and pieces I just throw in the trash. That’s what professionals do

In most installations, you will have the side panel frames and expandable curtains installed one on each side to fill in the extra space in your window. If you have done this, the extra piece you found may have been inadvertently included with your unit. You may want to check to ensure there's no gap between the window and the top of the air conditioner where water could come in when raining. If there is, add a foam gasket strip to seal that space. Also, make sure you didn't remove any styrofoam type material in and around the vent areas. This is not packing material and should not be removed. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. If you have additional questions or concerns, please reach out to us on Social Media. All our best! Vikki@GEA
