Portable room A/C units we've used, all must vent out a window, and mostly recirculate indoor air. Air enters the AC unit through a woven washable filter, most is conditioned and let into the room, while some goes out exhaust via window. Usually, tiny openings around doorways allow a bit of outdoor air to come into the house; if you are in a wildfire area, there will be some smoke smell get in like that...happened during wildfires up in WA, too. --> But the amount that came into the house was minor, compared with outside. IF your house has indoor air filtration capable of filtering well [HEPA + charcoal + dust filters], you might not smell smoke at all, unless someone enters a door and lets some come in. We've a couple window AC units that recirculate indoor air & let off the heat outside, similarly; worked very well during wild fires here--3 asthmatics in house, no complaints.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Danny, I just got this and wondered the same question. I'm living by the Norcal fires. This unit pulls air from inside and expels hot air outside. As long as your open window has a tight grip on the exhaust, you should be fine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Danny - Thanks for choosing GE Model APCA09YZBW! We are sorry to hear of the wildfires in your area. The unit circulates inside air only. It does not have an outdoor vent or air exchange. If you have any additional questions, we are also happy to help at GEAppliances.com. Stay safe and keep in touch! Sue
