No it does not provide it's own air. It pulls air from the room (through leaks under the door etc) and blows hot air out the house. Ideally I would think you want a two-hose air conditioner, that brings in air as well as blowing it out. BTW, this is a great unit though some have added insulation to the hose as it does get hot which somewhat defeats cooling the room. Hope that helps.
