• Rear vented and ours has six inches behind dryer.

• H-this is Sue from GE. Thanks for your interest in model DCVH480EKWW. This model features 4-Way Exhaust from the Rear, Left, Right or Bottom. This allows for installation flexibility. Dryers (In an Alcove or Closet installation): 0 inches on side 4 inches front and rear (allows adequate space for venting). 52 inch minimum space from floor to ceiling or overhead cabinets Thanks for checking with us!

• If you are using the standard 4 inch duct work, and you can use the flexible kind you should be able to make it work. I have my unit in a closet under the stairs. It does have to be vented from the back of the unit, it could not be vented through the side of the machine.
