• We used homemade soap and it works well in this machine as well as our high efficiency at our summer home. It has very little suds so can be used in either, This washer washes as well as our other high efficiency machine without agitator. Making your own soap costs about 2 cents a load and cleans better than purchased detergent.

• This is a HE washer and HE detergent is recommended.

• It is an HE machine. You can see the little "HE" logo on the far right of the knobs panel.

• It actually does recommend that you use HE detergents. I use my regular detergent, just 1/2 the amount and get great results. The whole theory behind this is the machine uses less water and you don’t need as much.

• It is rated as a High Efficient machine. You can see the logo in gray color on the top control panel under the Auto Soak dial. I love this machine so far.
