There is a slight gap to accommodate the electrical connection. But it includes a metal spacer that attaches to the back to eliminate the space so things don't fall behind it.

The rang is designed to fit in a standard 30" free-standing range cutout. The oven vent is located at the rear of the cooktop. This model will have a gap at the back that does not exceed 1/8 inch to allow for cool air needed for the controls.
