Hi Fastforward - Thanks for choosing GE! Starting in 2015, top-load washers feature a lid lock that engages when the washer is either load-sensing (Precise Fill) before and during fill, or when it is spinning above 50 RPM (safety feature). It does not lock for the entire cycle or during the wash cycle. If the lid is locked, pausing the machine will allow you to open the lid. Keep in touch! Sue
