Q: QuestionDoes this range have a safety feature that turn the burner off if it reaches a certain temperature? My tenant complains that the burner turns off and on during cooking and it takes them forever to cook a meal. Is this normal? Are others experiencing it?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Greetings, The burners on this model range are equipped with Sensi-Temp technology. Starting in 2018, UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) regulations require all electric coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. As a result, our electric coil burners now use Sensi-Temp Technology. Each burner with this technology has a silver medallion with a button (sensor) in the center of the coil. This button must make contact with the bottom of the cookware for the Sensi-Temp Technology to sense the temperature properly. When the sensor detects a pan temperature near the limit (450 degrees F), the burner will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached. At that point, the burner will resume heating. This will not affect everyday cooking as the automatic shut-off is temporary and only happens at a very high temperature. Thanks for choosing GE! Q: QuestionWas smoke when i first turned the oven on. i left it turned on for 20 min without food to burn off whatever it was Now i have baked food 3xs in it. The oven makes a strange occasional high pitched sound & the first item had chemical taste. This normal?
Asked by Sylbi.
- A:Answer Hello, and thanks for reaching out. We hate to hear you have concerns over your new oven – we know that may have caused some worry, and regret any inconvenience. A small amount of smoke is not uncommon the first time a new range is used – this is caused by the heating of new parts, insulation materials, etc. Regarding a chemical taste, that could have been caused by any smoke or odor when you first used it. If the smoke and chemical taste issues haven’t yet been resolved, you might want to run the oven again, and/or follow the cleaning instructions that start on page 18 of the Use and Care manual (which can be viewed on our GE website by looking up the model number). Regarding the sound, we do expect the unit may make ‘crackling’ or ‘popping’ sounds because of the metal heating and cooling. ‘Clicking’ noises are also expected. If you are concerned that the noise you’re hearing is out of the ordinary (or the issue with a chemical taste/smoke hasn’t been resolved) and you think service may be necessary, that department is available at 1-800-432-2737. We hope this information helps. If you have any other concerns or questions, we are always happy to assist. All the best! -Sarah@GEA

Q: QuestionDoes this range have a downdraft for venting downward not upward?
Asked by BlueSwede.
- A:Answer Hello BlueSwede. Thank you for reaching out. This is an excellent question and I'll be happy to help. This range does not have a built-in downdraft system. If you are wanting ventilation for this range, we would recommend you install an over-the-range microwave or vent hood above this range. We hope this helps answer your question and we wish you the best. - Guy@GEA

Q: QuestionDo the eyes power on and off like a glasstop or do they stay on at the required setting?
Asked by pipeman.
This question was asked about the related product: GE - 5.0 Cu. Ft. Freestanding Electric Range - White
- A:Answer Hi - Thank you for reaching out. In some instances the burners may cycle off. Beginning in 1/2018, all GE electric coil burner ranges have "Sensi-Temp Technology" burners. This style of burner includes a sensor and when the sensor detects a pan temperature near the limit (450 degrees F), the burner will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached. This design is intended to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. Once a lower safe temperature is reached, the burner will cycle back on. This cycling in most cases, will not affect everyday cooking as the automatic shut-off is temporary and only happens at a very high temperature. We hope this helps. Vikki@GEA
