Hello Jim - Thank you for the excellent question on this superb range. We are always happy to share about our appliances. The steam clean function does not require a water connection. This feature is used by pouring a cup of water into the bottom of the oven and letting the heat do the rest. Please let us know if you have any more questions. - JB
