• A:Answer The only difference between the RPWF and the RPWFE is a chip on the back of the E which tells when to change the filter and supposedly detect leaks. To bypass this nearly $40 over charge by GE, take the sticker containing the chip off of the old filter and place it in the exact spot on the new RPWF filter.

• A:Answer Hi Bill - RPWFE filters after May 2017 also reduce: Meprobamate, Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Naproxen, Estrone, Chloramines, Bisphenol A, VOCs like Linuron, Metolachlor, DEET, Nonylphenol. Models that come with the RPWFE cannot use the RPWF. Keep in touch! Sue

Q: QuestionMy filter stopped working after 3 weeks. I am getting a past due message. I contacted GE, and GE parts said they do not warranty water filters sold through Best Buy. Is this true?

• A:Answer Best Buy will not accept a return of a filter for any reason. They rejected my return for a defective filter and redirected me to GE for a warranty. GE does not honor warranties of filters purchased from Best Buy or any other third party. Best Buy’s product information for this filter is misleading. A 30-day manufacturers warranty is listed but Best Buy and GE will not warranty this product at all. I was able to get a one-time replacement as a courtesy from the GE Appliance Twitter account.

• A:Answer Take a picture of model tag inside refrigerator and go to Best Buy with that information. They carry water filters for the appliances they sell. You just need to know the brand & model # of the refrigerator you have. I’ve also gotten mail from GE to buy them directly from them at a discount. It seems like you could probably even buy them from Amazon.
