No.. If you use the upper continuous drain hose, you have to empty the external bucket daily. However, if you leave it plugged, you rarely have to empty the bottom tank as it uses a scoop method to eject the condensed water into the hot hose line, thus evaporating it easily. My has been running for a week now and has not shut off due to needing to drain the bottom tank.

Water will condense inside the appliance and drain out the back. The humidity level will automatically be set and cannot be modified in dry mode. Note: It is best not to exhaust the hose to the window. We recommend keeping your doors and windows closed. Joyce@GEAppliances
