There is a 1/2" gap behind the oven exhaust vent (the ridge at the rear in the photos). The exhasut vent is just that an EXHAUST (not intake) vent that automatically turns on when the oven is on (or still warm after use). It is 100% self managing (you cannot just force it on/off). The vent is VERY quiet. I expect (but don’t know) that the 1/2" gap is specifically there to support what you’re thinking. The range does not have any INTAKE “hood” functionality built in (aside from integrating with other GE products to “talk” which can turn them on).

The amount of space (countertop and cabinetry) needed to accommodate the range and a downdraft vent system is prohibitive. We appreciate you checking with us. Kind regards - Vikki@GEA
