The scale inhibiting filter will filter 40 gallons of water before needing to be replaced. So, the need to replace the filter is approximately every 3 months, though it will depend on your usage. We recommend only using distilled water in your Opal to help reduce the potential for mineral buildup. It is recommended that you follow the instructions in the owner’s manual for your unit regarding the schedule of running descaling and sanitizing cycles. Using vinegar in the descaling cycle can help break up the minerals as well. It’s important to note that distilled water is different from bottled water, reverse osmosis water, filtered water, or spring water. All of these other options contain varying levels of minerals that can build up in the unit and impede optimal operation. Using distilled water reduces the frequency of descaling and cleaning. Using our scale-inhibiting filter, part P4INKSFLTR, is designed to reduce the solidification of scale. It is recommended that there be at least 4” of clearance in the back, on both sides, and above the Opal to allow proper air flow so that the fan can move air about the unit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The manual and GE brand filters list the change interval at every 3 months. However, it also depends entirely on the brand of filter and type of water being used. Some of the cheaper filters on Amazon don't last very long. I've had one that has a relatively good rating last barely over a week. If you use distilled water, then the period between changing the filter could also be pushed out even further.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Only had mine for less than a month and already had to replace the filter because the original filter would not allow enough flow to operate the machine.
