Hi Danny, this is a great question. For the safety of our customers, the knob must first be pushed in and turned to LITE in order for the burner to ignite. Because you have to push the knob in, we don't foresee you turning on your range by accident. We hope this is useful information! We'd love to have you in our GE Appliances family. - Guy@GEA
