definitely hits 15 amps, as I had it plugged into a non-GFI outlet on the other side of my kitchen island and it popped my GFI outlet upstairs, which is apparently on that same circuit! This smoker is great - it is easy to use, easy to clean, after you finally get the side shelves out and the cover off the heating element on the bottom, but this draws A LOT of electricity and also puts out a lot of heat. After using this twice during the summer since I've gotten it, I'm not sure I want to use it again, until electricity is cheaper and it's closer to winter time.

The amperage draw is approximately 11.7. That said, during the course of a cooking cycle, it is possible for the smoker to temporarily draw slightly more amps. Our recommendation is to plug the unit into a 120 volt, 15 amp dedicated circuit. We hope you choose this amazing product for your home. Kind regards - Vikki@GEAppliances
