Gave them 30 dollars over paypal for a new charger and they accepted payment and the last I have heard from them. Won't respond to emails and no information, status, or shipping info on my order.

Newer Chromebooks, some available at Best Buy for as little as $100 to $150, have a version of linux included on them available easily to the owner/user. Using a Chromebook to learn linux would probably be easier than trying to install Ubuntu on this Windows-based laptop, and you could still learn about the software and web development with it.
