Near detect have a configuration setting that you can set such that small pets do not trigger the alarm.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The detect acts as one sensor with two jobs. Once installed the functionality cannot be split. Although when setting up the detect, it will ask in what is it being used (doors, windows, or simple motion) for and you label it as such. If its a window the motion portion will not be as active as the detect portion. The directions will also give an optimal height for doors and wall mount motions that will help with false readings such as small animals and children. The detects can also be suspended momentarily while the alarm is active like say you want to exit a door, open a window, go down a hall. I have had some false alerts with pets but nothing major or to much of a headache. All of this info is listed one the Nest website.
