• I found an extnsion piece online that allowed me to mount the doorbell in the existing space with the existing wiring. The extension piece fit in the 1 inch space that I had also.

• Yes. The doorbell is a little wider but the mounting base narrows down to under 1" wide.

• Good day, Patti56! Thanks for your inquiry. You’ll need to remove the mounting plate when replacing your previous Nest doorbell with the 2nd gen. The chime connector that came with your existing doorbell also needs to be replaced since it is not compatible with the 2nd gen doorbell.
