Do you need a C wire null

The Nest Thermostat is designed to work if your home doesn’t have a common (“C”) wire. I did not need to have the c wire for it to work on mine. You will need to use an app on your phone to program it.

No, it is advised for you to have one to power the thermostat. But while your A/C or heating is on it will take some of that power and recharge the batteries.
