“I'm looking for a thermostat that will control both of our heating systems. Most of the winter we heat with an external wood burner but as needed we do use our back up lp. Will ONE of these control both systems?”

It depends on your system and it's wiring. Nest Thermostat works with most 24V heating and cooling systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, boilers, and heat pumps with either forced air or radiant delivery that has a maximum of 6 wires.
