From my understanding, whether a phone is locked to a specific provider or not has nothing to do with the amount of any extra software the phone may or may not have. However, an unlocked phone does not have any possible provider discount so it is usually at full price. I didn't notice any extra software on my new 3XLbeyond the apps I transferred over from my iPhone when I set up the Google. The transfer was smooth and seamless with nothing extra piled on to the clean Android operating system.
