The black offers a higher res mode with no touch screen and is more expensive. The silver has touch screen menu system. From what I found and was told by GOPRO support, a PROFESSIONAL would desire the black, but a home user, general all around user should just go silver. There are some very helpful youtube videos by some real pros! Bottom line, unless you are a pro video person making movies, you will be much happier with the silver.

The silver has a built in touchscreen/display so you can replay videos and change settings easier. I have also read in reviews that the silver has better battery life, but I cannot speak from experience. They can both film in 4K/UHD and most of the other functions are the same as well.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Silver has a screen on the back, and records at slightly lower quality than the black. It's perfect for people who aren't trying to film in 4K resolution, 1080p is fine for most people.
