Computer must be on in order to use the DVR, unless you have yours on 24/7 I recommend another device with a built in DVR.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You definitely need some kind of storage device to use the DVR. With that said, if you are not very familiar with setting things up on a computer, or just want a simple plug and play DVR setup, you might consider getting an HDHomeRun SCRIBE instead. Then you don't need to mess with installing anything but the HDHomeRun apps. If you just want live TV, you don't need anything else. Just install the app. To see all the devices that support HDHomeRun, visit https://www.silicondust.com/live-tv/#devices
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To use the DVR, you need to have some type of networked storage. It could be a PC or NAS, or some other type of media server. Once you have chosen your storage you'll have to download an app/program from HDHomerun that runs on that device and works as the DVR. You must also have a subscription to the DVR service to use it. I got my HDHOMERUN from BestBuy as well, and it 2 month free trial. It took a while, but they eventually added two months to my subscription. You can add the app to as many devices as you want to. You are limited to recording and viewing 4 streams at a time. It works amazingly well. The picture quality is fantastic. I use firesticks, and the HDHomerun app tends to have a slight delay between the audio and the picture, so the lips are out of sync frequently. That's my only complaint. Hopefully SiliconDust fixes this with an app update... Hope this helps! WBrian
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No laptop needed. Just plug into network and use app on phone, iPad, tv, or computer. Dvr feature is through their cloud. Yes you can put the app on 4 Smart tvs or phones. No matter how many devices you have with the app, you can only watch 4 at a time.
