Solid Tuner. Antenna Amplifier is a MUST Have
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Quatro tuner in November of 2017. No issues. I mostly use Mediaportal (not for newbies) to watch and record my OTA TV, but from time to time use the HDHomeRun app which works just fine and looks decent. I've also done a few trials of Plex, and also had a good experience with the two paired (Plex + Quatro). Overall no complaints. It's true the signal gets weaker everytime you split the incoming signal, and I can understand the frustration some people are having with the Quatro; but if you have a decent antenna with a digital amplifier (digital amplifier is a MUST have), you should be fine. I personally use a Winegard Flatwave -- best antenna out I've come across. Random side note, the Mohu Sky was a $120 joke. Anyhow, this review is about the tuner, and my point being the tuner works only as good as your antenna can pickup the signal.

Posted .The tuner definitely depends on an antenna that does the job. One alternative solution to boosting the antenna is to simply place it higher in the building. Since it doesn't matter where the antenna or the HDHomeRun sit, as long as there's a way to connect to an ethernet port, you could theoretically put your antenna on the roof or in the attic and get much better signal. There's definitely no reason to worry about rabbit ears next to the TV anymore! Thanks for the review, and welcome to the HDHomeRun family!

AMAZING!...once configured
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, let me say this device is AMAZING! Works great with my Nvidia Shield TV 2017. One major issue I had that almost caused me to return the HDHomeRun - Connect Quatro Tuner was after setting up I would receive an error message of "Unable to play channel" "No video data" even though the channels I was receiving this error for (CBS and NBC) I get great signal so I figured it wasnt a signal issue. After rebooting my network several times, moving splitters, bypassing splitters I jumped on google and saw others were having this same issue. Someone suggested downloading the latest BETA Firmware https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=20613&sid=d98c9b1e37090c82ff25c13f70db826b. ***Note- Just updating to the latest Firmware does not fix this issue. You need the BETA firmware. I had the latest firmware and was still experiencing these errors. After I did this, I rebooted everything including the HDHOMERUN, network switch, router and NVIDIA Shield TV. FINALLY! No more issues!!! I have been enjoying this setup for almost a week and not one "Unable to play channel" "No video data" issue. They really need to fix this as I am sure others have returned this device (just as I almost did). I gave this 4 stars only because of the frustrating setup and configuration hassle. Besides that...5 STARS!

Couldn’t be more simple for cord-cutters!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, I didn’t expect this to be so easy! I’ve been wanting to cut the cord (sorry Directv) for quite some time. I purchased an over-the-air (OTA) antenna, with amplifier, and intended to “wire it into” the cabling system in my home (using the same input into the splitter where the Directv satellite came in) to feed signal to 5 different outlets / TVs in our home. Then I discovered the HDHomeRun! What, no wires? I purchased the HDHomeRun and in two simple connections (power and Ethernet cable into a WiFi extender in my garage), I am broadcasting over-the-air TV in HD throughout my home. I chose to buy the “Channels” app in the Apple App Store which works EXTREMELY well, rather than the free HDHomeRun app (just ok, but works). Now I can broadcast the over-the-air TV signals wirelessly to my families iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs... WITHOUT WIRES! LOVE IT! If you’re considering cutting the cord, and looking for easy options, then consider the HDHomeRun Connect with multiple tuners as the ideal solution. You’ll need a good OTA antenna to capture HD TV signals from broadcasting stations, a good WiFi network in your home (add extenders with Ethernet port if needed, in case you can’t get the antenna wired to the HDHomeRun Connect, which must hard-wired to your wireless network router - remember, a wireless extender works fine, too), and download the apps to your Apple devices, and you’ll be basking in cord-cutter, saving all kinds of money glory! NOTE: The “Channels” app works great for Apple products, and I understand they’re moving toward Android, too. I haven’t tested it with any Android devices (Nvidia Shield TV, etc.), but expect they will get it right when it’s available. Search for “Channels” in your device’s App Store. Lastly, I have recently subscribed to Directv NOW to get ESPN and other “favorite” non-OTA channels and Premium Channels... and I’m still saving over $100 per month compared to Directv satellite service... and still, I’m all wireless, and able to watch TV on my iPhone, iPad, or Apple TVs. This enables me to watch TV on my deck now, with a TV and Apple TV on a small cart I can easily move onto the deck, or garage, or driveway... wherever, as long as I’m able to access my home WiFi network!

Excellent Product hat provides multiple opyions
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I connected this using a Mohu Sky 60 Antenna. I was able to get 67 channels. This works flawlessly on the Mac, IPad, iPhone, Xbox one, Amazon Fire stick, LG TV (with DLNA). On the MS PC’s I did have some issues where the app would give me a message that there was no receiver. It works after a few retries. However that does not bother me as that’s not my primary device to use this. The primary uses was for thebasement TV. The Antenna is in the attic and this device really solves the problem of providing TV to multiple devices where I can’t run a cable. Haven’t used the DVR function as I still have my satellite connection. Great product. Highly Recommend it.

Awesome! Very easy setup if you're at all techy
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't believe I waited so long to buy one of these. I've been thinking about getting one for some but was not sure how it would actually work until I tried it thanks to being fed up with Comcast. Set up is really easy. One coax connector, one power connector, and one network connector. With a $10 digital antenna connected via coax and plugging the unit into my home network using Ethernet, I can immediately get around 50 free, OTA (over the air) channels and watch them on any device including my TVs. I use my SiliconDust HDHomeRun Cuatro network TV tuner with Plex server software and was very pleased to be able to watch local channels, sports, and other OTA content plus everything in my own media library anywhere on any mobile device including while traveling, even overseas. None of the blackouts I frequently experienced trying to stream my Xfinity channels using their app. I am glad I bought the Quatro (4 tuner) version so I can watch and/or record multiple programs simultaneously. The price difference was very modest over the 2 tuner version. Unfortunately, I am not completely ready to "cut the cord" because my wife and daughter are hooked on a traditional TV remote control at each TV vs. having to run or switch to a streaming app in order to watch live content. But we are getting close which in the first month alone would save me more than the cost of the HDHomeRun Quattro. To fully cut the cord in my home, I would also need a subscription to a premium streaming service like Hulu, Sling, Youtube TV, etc. but that would still be much cheaper than my cable subscription. The problem then is still having multiple streaming services to switch between to get everything they want to easily watch. We are getting there.... The HDHomeRun set up is trivially easy. For streaming out of your home over the Internet, it helps to have a good, high speed connection, obviously. I am pleased that the tuner does not put too much traffic on my home network at all and I can still stream other content while watching live OTA programs. As hinted above, Plex really makes the unit come alive for me. For $5 / month (or less if you buy a longer term) running on some device that's always on (I use a Mac mini), you have a comprehensive local program guide, very good DVR capabilities, all in addition to live TV from OTA channels your antenna receives. You can watch this on any device (Smartphones, iPads, Laptops, game consoles, AppleTVs, FireTVs, Rokus, smart TVs, and more.) And, the video quality at 1080p for most OTA channels received is HIGHER than local channels on Xfinity or U-Verse. You will immediately see the difference. I tried the HD HomeRun software, Channels app on IOS, and a few others and for my use, they were not as comprehensive, powerful, or easy to use as Plex. However, those are good options as well based on the reviews I found. I recommend giving the HDHomeRun digital TV tuner a try to really understand what it can do. It's not for someone completely non-tech, but it also does not require a PhD in home tech to wonder why you did not try it sooner (even if like me you still pay for cable).

Posted .Quite an extensive review! Thanks much! Two points worth making. First, you are absolutely right about blackouts. With Over the Air TV, you never have to worry about missing a game because some cable company couldn't negotiate rates with CBS anymore. Second, ease of use is often in the eye of the beholder. For people comfortable with Plex, it's definitely just worth continuing to use Plex. The HDHomeRun software and Channels are both designed more around people coming from a cable box background, or even a background where they just flip the channels on their TV. And those apps are intended for people comfortable with those scenarios.
In fact, many would argue the single easiest app to setup and use these days would be the HDHomeRun app combined with an HDHomeRun SCRIBE, since then you get a DVR built right in and no need to set anything up at all. But ultimately, it all comes down to personal preference.
Again, thanks much for this review! Hopefully people will find it helpful!

Works great.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the earlier two tuner model and was very happy with how it worked, but needed more tuners to cover whole house. This was a great solution and I now have 6 tuners. My y only disappointment is that there are no indicator lights on the device. The two tuner model had two leds to let you know the tuners are in use and one for power. This unit has none. It is a plain box and you have to use web browser to check the status of the unit. For this reason, I deduct one star.

Posted .By design and popular demand we removed the LEDs from the front as we dynamically allocate users across the next available tuner
Network status is now on the back near the Ethernet jack
Q: QuestionI wish to be able to take recorded content from the multiple tuner DVR (assuming hard drive) and burn it to a DVD. Can this device perform that function?
Asked by Shadow.
- A:Answer No, this is just a TV tuner, which outputs to mpeg-2 format. You can accomplish what you want with a few pieces of software. 1.) DVR software, available from HDHR with a premium subscription. 2.) Transcoding software, i.e. Handbrake, to put the resulting recordings in a format readable by the DVD. 3.)DVD burning software to get them on to the discs. Good luck with your research!

Q: QuestionSo do you watch local channels, do you watch them just like normal with an antenna hooked to the tv or do you watch them thru an Amazon Fire or other device?
Asked by Locals.
- A:Answer When you install this device, you have to disconnect your outside antenna from your TV and connect it to this. It is also connected to your ethernet cable and to power. Next you have to down load the HD Homerun app on any of your network connected devices that you want to watch your local channels on. Install it on your computer and run the app. It will scan for local channels and finish the set up of your HD Homerun device. You can also install the app on Apple TV, Android boxes such as Nvidia shield, etc. That will allow you to watch your channels on them. For example, I have HD Homerun app on my desktop, Iphone 8, Apple TV and Nvidia shield. One note,,, this will not record, that is a service that is offered in the app for $35 / yr. but is not required if you just want to view.

Q: QuestionCan this be used with TV that have no tuner? New Vizio TVs don't have a tuner and they have Chromecast, can I use this device on those TVs?
Asked by Ferreloso.
- A:Answer Best practice here is to stream through the HDHomeRun to a media device which is connected to the TV via HDMI - and use our Free Live TV app or a 3rd party app that will then play to the TV These include FireTV stick or box / Nvidia Shield / Xioami box / AppleTV4 / XboxOne / etc

Q: QuestionWith multiple tuners I want to be able to record multiple programs at the same time. Can I do that if I have an optional hard drive connected?
Asked by Shadow.
- A:Answer you'll need dvr software as well as disk storage. silicon dust offers a fee based dvr service or alternatively you could use free software, mythtv, kodi, or windows media server - although the later is no longer bundled with windows 10. google free dvr and the os of your choice and you'll find much to choose from i use mythtv and it works very well - one caveat it does not work well with windows If you're not technically inclined then the dvr offering from silicon dust may be what you're looking for

Q: QuestionWhat internet speed should I have to use HDHomeRun with three TVs ?
Asked by Jack.
- A:Answer The beauty of HDHomeRun is that we work across your internal home network. Internet speeds, download speeds, net neutrality, none of that affects HDHomeRun streaming throughout the home. RF from your antenna in, Connect to your home Router or Switch - The only Internet required is Low Bandwidth connect to our servers for the Guide Data A 100MB router is recommended, but if you have a GigE network you should never his your max as the highest bandwidth channel would be approx 18 to 20 Mbs

Q: QuestionReading the description, I see all kinds of allusions to HD this and HD that, but nothing ever comes right out and says high definition. Is this capable of recording high def media over the air for high def replay later later on a high definition TV?
Asked by TopsailBeachBum.
- A:Answer Using the SiliconDust Quattro with either the SiliconDust DVR service or the Channels DVR service from Fancy Bits (I use this one), you can record OTA broadcasts in HD. The Channels DVR service will also record the SiliconDust Premium TV streaming content. Both of these DVR services require local storage and a paid subscription.
