• They are not built in. An external HD Antenna is needed only if you want to watch local over the air broadcasts, as long as they are not too far away. If you have a home Wifi router the best option is to use the Smart TV online.

• The TV has a digital tuner! In order to get digital over the air signals you will need an antenna that can receive digital signals. If you have access to the internet you could choose one of the streaming TV options, some provide local channels without an antenna. (Hulu, Sling etc.) I hope this answers your question.
