“all we need for 80 & 90 year old parents is a good picture and good sound.. we're not interested in the 'smart' part of this tv.. they have verizon fios tv ... will this tv give good picture and good sound w/o all the other options being used?”

Yes this T.V. is great by itself. I only use it for sporting events and T.V. shows. Love the sound and picture quality.

I play video games on mine and it is comparable to some of the higher end 4K tvs sound can be adjust with a built in Equalizer in the settings.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the picture is excellent on Hi Def channels (which means your parents must subscribe to HD from their cable provider. Ours costs $10/month for all sets in the house.) If your parents don't need the extra features, there are 1080p choices (not 4k) available at a lower price which would provide an equally similar picture. We chose this set primarily because of its 4-year warranty. Hope this helps.
