I haven't looked into this yet, but I agree that the cord is way too short. The label on the back of the tv shows it is rated for 300 watts at 120 volt. That converts to 2.5 amps. I would look for that at bare minimum in a new cord, but ideally something higher just for an extra margin of safety. No idea if something like that exists.
