Hello Matthew, I’m not an expert but I have vast experience with surround sound! This is 5.1.4 system, meaning there are 5 channels for the soundbar: 1 center, 1 left front, 1 right front inside the soundbar itself! The two remaining channels are 1 left rear and 1 right rear which are your surround sound speakers to be placed behind where you would sit! Sometimes directly or off to the side depending on your living space? The next digit .1 is the subwoofer that is placed near the front off to the side. The last digit is.4 which are the upward firing speakers that are part of Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. At least 2 of the 4 are located on the topside of the soundbar itself, not positive about the other 2? There’s 2 options, either all 4 are inside the bar or there could be 2 in the rear surround speakers. Dolby Atmos uses these up firing speakers to bounce sound off of the ceiling and back down creating a dome of sound around the viewing area! The rear speakers connect wirelessly, as well as the subwoofer, however each on of those has a power cord that must be plugged into an outlet! Back to your question, you’d be defeating the purpose of having surround sound by putting the rear speakers at the front!! Just my opinion
