Hi Dave ! Evaporative Air Coolers are not rated by BTUs like Portable Air Conditioners. This unit has 780 CFM airflow and up to 300 square foot cooling capacity. Air Coolers use the natural process of evaporation to cool down air versus air conditioning which requires a compressor and cooling refrigerant. They are more comparable to a fan, and should not be expected to cool like an AC. Air Coolers also work best in dry climates with humidity that is below 50-60%, and it is required that windows be open for cross-ventilation so that the warm and cool air can circulate.
