There are actually two hoses in the rear of the unit. The larger hose is the exhaust, which should be connect to the unit and then placed in a window using the plastic support to wedge the hose in the window when you lower or close the window. I found the use of a tension bar works great to retain the hose into the window frame behind the hose itself. The smaller hose is for draining the humidity tank prior to storage. The unit will indicate using the display when the internal tank needs to be drained.
